(Columbia SC) (Can you use type s mortar for a footer for brick steps 4 steps high?)
Mortar Footings at the steps would only insure a crack in the wall.
It is not recommended. It is already a weak point. If the concrete footing actually stops at the step then it could develop a crack in the wall. Mortar decomposes very quickly in the ground because it is not structurally designed to be more than 5/8 inches thick. It has very small aggregates and will crack up.
